The World According to Winds

Unabashed wind enthusiast James Austin Smith leads Music@Menlo on a journey through music history from a wind player’s perspective. For the first time at the festival, the evolution of these singular voices is revealed, from their origins in antiquity to their beguiling influence on composers from the Renaissance to today. Smith offers our audience the opportunity to openly embrace the chamber music love that dare not speak its name - that of instruments without strings.
